Household Batteries Recycling Locations

All batteries are considered hazardous waste in California when they are discarded. This includes all batteries of sizes AAA, AA, C, D, button cell, 9 Volt, and all other batteries, both rechargeable and single use. Battery recyclers melt down spent rechargeable and household batteries in a high-temperature process, then reclaim materials such as nickel, iron, lead, cobalt, and cadmium.

Curbside Collection for Single-Family Residences Allied Waste, South San Francisco Scavenger, Recology of the Coast, and Recology San Bruno , offer curbside battery collection for single-family residences. You can place your batteries in a small ziplocked bag and put the bag in the appropriate recycle bin (check with your waste hauler -either on top of the paper bin or bottle/can bin depending on where you live) so that it is clearly visible.
