About: The agency manages parks, trails, and historic sites to preserve public lands and to provide opportunities for education and recreation. The San Mateo County Park system represents the region’s wondrously diverse natural settings, from rugged tidepools, lush mountain forests, and remote campsites to bayfront shoreline, sunny picnic areas and popular playgrounds. The system’s 18 parks, regional, county and local trails, and two historic sites are located throughout the County and encompass nearly 16,000 acres. Four locations offer visitor center services. Docent programs are at six locations. Camping, including youth-group camping, is available. Volunteers help restore natural habitats, maintain trails and parks, serve as naturalists and education center hosts, patrol trails on foot and on horse.
