We’re lucky to be able to eat fresh fish from the San Francisco Bay and Pacific Ocean. Many fish in the bay and Ocean are healthy and safe to eat, but some fish have high levels of toxins like polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and mercury that can harm your health and are NOT safe to eat. PCBs have been classified as a probable human carcinogen by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Mercury can harm an unborn baby or child’s brain. Women and children are especially vulnerable to these health risks. View the guides below to see which fish are safe to eat with recommended serving size and servings per week.
