Litter in San Francisco Bay Area creeks and shorelines originates from a variety of sources including pedestrians, waste containers, illegal dumping, and vehicle drivers. The Litter Reduction Toolkit focuses on reducing litter at Multi-Family Dwellings (i.e. apartment buildings) due to the complex nature of this type of land use, the potential for higher levels of litter generation, and the challenging management practices related to these issues.

The purpose of the Litter Reduction Toolkit is to provide guidance and identify litter management practices and other tools to prevent and reduce litter at existing and newly constructed multi-family dwelling properties in San Mateo County. There is also information regarding SMCWPPP program training opportunities for municipal staff and guidance for the development community to ensure multi-family dwellings are designed appropriately for waste management.

Very Small Quantity Generator (VSQG) Program

Some businesses generate very little hazardous waste and may be eligible to participate in the Very Small Quantity Generator (VSQG) Program. The Program is designed to provide an inexpensive hazardous waste disposal option to these companies, non-profits, and other entities instead of contracting with a commercial hazardous waste management firm.

The Program operates by appointment only. Click here to learn more.
